Mrs
Biet Gladys, Husband & BE Trainer

BE
Testimony
Mrs
Biet Gladys Banah was one of the 24 participants at the
IFC Business Edge “training for Business Women”
that took place at Buea - Fakoship plaza conference hall
from July 8th 2010 to July 9th 2010.
I
visited her at her Ombe New Lay out residence/farm
to obtain feedback on the outcome of the training as well
as provide any required advisory support.
Gladys
managed the family’s animal farm – Goats and
chicken – some times before but wound up because
“things were not moving.”
She heard about the Business plan training and was attracted
to it more for the GOWE project loan opportunity than
for the capacity building component.
It is for this reason that her sole expectation for the
work shop was “to be eligible for a loan to grow
my business”.
However by the close of the workshop her expectations
had changed as she was able to identify the cause of the
failure of her animal farm. She now confesses that she
failed because she lacked financial management skills
especially basic book keeping.
The small module on basic bookkeeping that I added to
the main module on business plan had an activity on poultry
farming and Gladys realised that she and her husband (who
is very supportive of her business) needed to have included
their salaries in the farm’s expense list and thus
keep a clear account for the business.
Gladys returned home with the good news and the determination
to re-start her animal farm and this time she decided
to keep a ledger for her business.
In the beginning of October 2010 she bought 100 day old
broilers and added to some 10 goats that she was rearing.
By December ending her ledger showed the following record:
• Total expenditure ,187,000frs
• Events, 4 dead chicken
• Total Sales, 259,000frs
• 2 cocks worth 20,500frs
She had reinvested some of the money into another set
of chicken, feed, drugs etc and she currently has a total
of 40 one month old broilers, 40 two weeks old and 30
few days old as well.
The new set also shows a clear account of expenditure,
income and events.
The account for the goats is kept separately and there
are 4 big goats for sale. |
